Recycling Rocks: A Reminder To Get Outside Yourself

As much as I love to take care of myself, I also love to take care of the environment.  I’m so excited that my apartment complex has not put recycling bins right in our service elevator room.  I used to have to haul all my recycling to the loading dock in my building – and if that was closed (which it usually was) – I’d have to drive to the parking lot behind Borders on Ponce de Leon.

Now … I can just walk a few steps and drop it in the container.  The great thing, also, is that it takes Plastics, Glass, Paper and Aluminum. Now that I cook so much more and go grocery shopping as to have healthy options in my apartment, my amount of packaging has tripled.  Plus, I want to eat healthy…and food comes from the earth…and so I feel like I need to say “Thank You” to Mother Nature often.

I had so much recycling stored up in my little utility closet that it was getting insane.  I was like a recycling hoarder.  I almost needed an Oprah intervention.

Where's my vacuum? This is probably a big fire hazard.

Oh yeah - there's my vacuum! This is probably a fire hazard!

As I take better care of myself, I also want to take better care of the Environment.  I would say Environmental Awareness and Animal Rights are probably by biggest two Activist passions.  It’s just nice when it’s easier and more convenient to do so.  Sometimes it’s good to get out of your own head and see that there’s so many other things out there to fight for and make a difference about.  I can get really absorbed about my weight, and doing little stewardships like this give you a glimpse of a world outside of yourself.

That's all my recycling in there...

I hope nobody else on my floor has anything to recycle, haha.
