The benefits of weight loss certainly outweigh (pun highly intended!) the drawbacks. But, I think it’s important to mention a few of the odd things that my body has been going through since my loss of 63 pounds.
1. Good Thing I Have A Fro!: Hair loss is normal and in every weight loss pamphlet I received pre Lap Band surgery it said, “Expect to lose hair.” You’re like, “Yeah Yeah. Whatever.” But honestly, it’s true. When I take showers now, there is definitely, without a doubt, more hair loss than I used to have. It’s not clumps of hair, but it’s enough for me to take note of it, and have a bottle of drano on call. Luckily, I have a big fro of curls, so my hair still looks BIG (after all, it IS my trademark! I went to the bank today and the teller said to me, “You have the coolest hair!”), so nobody else but me would notice it. It’s still weird though. I take iron pills every day which I’m sure helps the situation, but I think hair loss is just a part of weight loss. I might start taking Biotin which is supposed to help, but I’m not sure yet.
2. Am I On A Whirly Ride?: I’ve always had pretty low blood pressure, so I’ve always had a lot of those moments when you stand up too quickly and everything gets hazy and you get lightheaded. Well, now this is happening way more often and it’s a much more intense. Now, when I stand up, or sometimes even when I just sit up, I get REALLY lightheaded and everything gets blurry and I have to hold onto the wall or the sofa. The other day I stood up and everything actually went black and I fell back onto the sofa. It was like I passed out but not quite because I was conscious the whole time. I talked to my doctor about it, and he said it’s normal because my body is adjusting to the weight loss. He said drinking more water will help, too. It’s annoying but not something I would trade for my weight loss. I get a few moments each day where I feel drunk! Who wouldn’t want that?
3. My Tummy Is As Soft As Charmin Ultra: I can definitely tell in my tummy and triceps that the skin is getting looser and just softer. It’s not so lose like in those pictures you see where the skin is hanging below my vagina! I can just tell my tummy is way more soft than it used to be and the skin is getting softer and more stretchy. I would be perfect for a Tim Burton movie! I am not sure when this is all said and done if I’ll need a tummy tuck, but I guess we’ll see. I’m doing sit ups, but in all honesty, it’s just the force of gravity to contend with, and last time I checked, the apple still fell onto Newton’s head.

I’m with you on the hairloss. I’ve also got a full, thick curly head of hair. [And yes, I've referred to it in the Summer as 'fro-like!]
I haven’t experienced light-headedness. Or the soft skin. Yet.
My brother had lap band just over 3 years ago, and has lost nearly 230 pounds. He sees a chiropractor several times a week because his joints are adjusting to his new weight.
Amazing what we put up with, weight on or off!
