Green Eggs & Sam

My brother-in-law, Sam, and I had a great talk yesterday.  He used to be pretty chubby growing up.  Right before he went off to college he lost about 70 pounds and has kept it off for nearly 10 years!  Well, it’s  way easier for men to lose weight, but still, it’s always been something that he and I have sort of bonded on.  He runs Marathons now and is super active, and also an extremely handsome actor living out in Los Angeles.  Not to mention he’s so sweet.

So two days ago I went on a walk/jog down the beach.  It was so amazing!  I had a hard time jogging in the one direction because the wind was so strong.  So I jogged a bit but mostly walked in the one direction.  Then I turned around and jogged all the way back to our end of the beach.  I wasn’t sure how far I had jogged but it seemed pretty far.  What was so exciting was that I jogged for way longer than I used to be able to do when at Kiawah.  I used to walk and jog in little increments.  But this time, I could make it all the way back without stopping!

So, yesterday, Sam and I went walking and jogging together and he has this nifty GPS thing he wears on his wrist like a watch.  It tells you how far you’ve run and your heart rate, etc.  So, he and I jogged a little bit and again, mostly walked along the beach.  We walked further than I did the day before.  Then we turned around and jogged the whole way back!  I could do it two days in a row!  And this jog was a bit farther than the one I did the day before.  We looked at his Garmin watch and we ended up walking/jogging 3 miles – including a total of 1.25 miles of straight jogging!!!  This was SO EXCITING for the both of us.  He’s so sweet and supportive, and of anyone in my family, Sam is really the only one who really understands weight struggle and the constant need to “watch it.”  He’s a big inspiration to me because he looks great and is super athletic and aware, but he wasn’t always that way.  I had so much fun jogging with Sam, I can’t wait to do it again!

Oh, and Katie and i bought a dozen eggs to eat this week, and little did we know my grandma’s best friend who is staying with us also bought a dozen eggs.  How do we eat two dozen eggs in a week?!  My sister hates eggs and she’s pregnant so Lord knows her unborn baby will be of no help.
