I have to say – the MOST excited people to see me since my weight loss are Carol & Maxine. They are the two women who have cleaned my house in Marietta for the past several years. Carol and I go way back. How about the time she yelled at me for not picking up my shirts off the floor before she vacuumed. Ever since then I’ve been a little afraid of her to be quite honest. I was living at home after college and she was out to set me straight (not literally!). The last time I saw them was actually a few days after my surgery when they were cleaning my house and I was laying on the couch moaning and groaning in pain while they vacuumed and it gave me a headache.
This last Memorial Day weekend I went to Los Angeles with my mom and so I spent the night at my home in Marietta Monday night because we got home late. Tuesday I was doing laundry at my parent’s house (their washer and dryer are so amazing!). I walked out of my room and Carol was getting some wash cloths out of the closet. She looked at me and started yelling in her Jamaican accent, “GIRL! LOOK AT YOU! OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD. MAXINE! COME HERE. MAXINE! GET UP HERE RIGHT NOW! WE HAVE BEEN WAITING TO SEE YOU!!!” And so Maxine came upstairs and started yelling, “OOOOH MY GOD! OOOOH MY GOD, GIRL! You look so great! We knew you could do it! Oh Girl!!!” I actually think Maxine began to tear up.
The only thing I could equate this to was when Oprah does her Oprah’s Favorite Things show and women are crying-screaming-hyperventilating-laying on the floor-thanking Jesus-the-world-is-coming-to-an-end-excitement. It was just…that exciting.
Then they made me turn around in circles like I was a poodle in a circus. I blushed and sort of turned around and they started screaming, “GIRL! YOU GOT A WHOLE LOT OF TALL ON YOU NOW!” Meaning, I suppose, that since losing almost 50 pounds I look much taller.
It was an adorable reaction and by far the best one I have received thus far. Family and friends’ reactions are great. But Carol and Maxine’s reactions were out of a movie. Wait until they see me after I lose 60..80…100 pounds! They could quite possibly spontaneously combust.
This makes me even more excited to see you. I am going to be in Atlanta June 27th through July 2nd. Hopefully you will have some time and we can get together.
