When you go out to eat and are craving fajitas, order them with a side of big pieces of lettuce (like they use for chicken lettuce wraps) rather than the flour tortias. Flour tortias have zero nutritional value and are just big, flat, empty carbs. At least with the lettuce, you are getting some nutrients plus zero empty carbs. Try them with some guacamole and salsa. You’ll be amazed at how much you miss the rice, sour cream and cheese. The lettuce can’t really hold as much, also, so you’ll find that you’re not piling on tons of extras. It may be a tad harder to eat so I wouldn’t recommend doing this on a first date!

This is good for restaurants like Chile’s and Applebees, etc. Mexican restaurants rarely have those big pieces of lettuce since they don’t serve lettuce wraps, so instead order a side of regular lettuce and make a fajita salad for yourself. That way you still have the fun of “creating” your meal without the added carbs and empty calories. Also, if you make the salad yourself, you have control over what goes into your salad and what doesn’t. Don’t be afraid to be picky – that’s what you’re paying the restaurant/waiter for. Just leave a little bit more in the tip if you feel as though the waiter has gone above and beyond for you.
