We’re Kinda Like Charlie’s Angels…

So…I really think life has a mischievous way of running itself. I am inspired. Really excited. That is usually what happens at the point when you feel as though anything is possible. You find this point, especially…most especially, when you are around people who feel the same.

So here’s the rundown. I met Angela on Craig’s List a few months ago. I don’t usually go on CL, if at all, but something caused me to check it out one night. So I saw a posting, “Anyone getting a Lap Band?” How crazy, I thought! What are the odds? So, I replied to the post and got a response back rather quickly. Turns out, Angela is in her 30′s, lives near me and was scheduled to get a Lap Band about a month before I got mine. We met up for coffee at Java Monkey and totally hit it off. I could tell we had so much in common and were definitely going to be friends.

So fast-forward a few weeks. I’m interviewing for a job at my friend’s company. Her name is Leslie. We have known each other for a few years since I worked at Journey Productions, but we’ve never really had deep conversations because the opportunity hadn’t presented itself. She didn’t know I was getting a Lap Ban, but this came up during my interview. I didn’t get the job (I was too creative for the position, they said) but one really, super cool thing that came from it is that Leslie was inspired by me to get a Lap Band! So, I feel like her company wasn’t the place for me to work, however, what was meant to be was that through the interview process, I was able to share my Lap Band experience with Leslie. Now, I feel closer to her than ever because this has opened a personal door for us both.

Fast forward to tonight. I have an Academy Awards party at my place. I have a lot of healthy snacks and such. Usually food is the centerpiece to any party – and this shouldn’t change on account of me, right? So I ate till I was full, and then stopped. Food, somehow, wasn’t as exciting to me. This was a change. And pretty cool. But the cooler thing is that both Leslie and Angela came to my party – so they got to meet one another. Keep in mind, Leslie is due for her Lap Band next Thursday and Angela and I have ours, so we were all talking about our experiences until about 1:30 AM.

The Academy Awards end. I was pretty happy that “No Country For Old Men” won Best Picture. After all, I DID take a class in college about the Coen Brothers! That’s totally besides the point. My friends at my party filter out but Leslie, Angela and I can’t stop talking about life in general, break-ups, life goals, etc. We definitely bonded. But the cool thing was that we didn’t really bond over food, but rather, all the other things we have in common.

And the coolest thing is that we are not in the very beginning stages of talking about collaborating on a creative project. Maybe a book idea? We are three very different people but have this major similarity. Plus, we are a trio consisting of a blond, a brunette (that’s me!) and a red head. Kinda like Charlie’s Angels, but without the ass-kicking. Well, maybe just a little ass-kicking. But anyways…

The point to tonight’s Blog is really just to say that I really, truly believe in the power of intention. The power that life will unfold how it’s supposed to, but you also can’t just sit on your ass or work a 9-5 job (and do nothing you’re passionate about on the side) and just expect all of your dreams to come true. Since Angela, Leslie and I all share a MAJOR passion for traveling, we are thinking of working this into our creative agenda and somehow tying that into our struggle with weight. Traveling is much better when you’re fit and trim. Especially if you want to do things like climb an Egyptian Pyramid or ride a camel. Who looks good riding a camel when you’re fat? Even the camel is thinking, “Please get off of me, lady! I’m freaking thirsty. This hump of water just isn’t cutting it!” We will be brainstorming and probably starting to sketch out some article ideas, but in the meantime, I just feel really inspired and happy.

Also, those two awkward, Irish unknowns won an Oscar for Best Song from the movie “Once” – and I like that song and movie.
